Kansas State's proactive approach:
- Gives permission for high school’s to borrow KSU’s “powercat” logo without fear of being hit with a trademark infringement clause – in return the high school pays $1 every two years.
- It’s a way of doing it officially without the large licensing fees being imposed on high schools.
- Gives school ability to use logos on uniforms, signs, etc. but requires they go through a vendor to produce T-Shirts or apparel that they wish to sell.
- Kansas State's program addresses both side’s concerns – give high schools right to use their logo at virtually no cost, however, maintains the financial benefits of licensing memorabilia through vendors that these schools must go through to sell T-shirts, etc.
